Wind maps
Wind maps shown the wind speed and direction over an area for a specified time, or a period. Wind is shown as streamlines, barbs, and colours (see examples). Streamlines show direction by their orientation and wind speed by their density. Barbs show direction by their orientation and wind speed by their shape. Colour scales are used to show the distribution of wind fields over the area. The scale is given in the map legend. Wind streamline maps can be combined with precipitation (colours), clouds (grey scale) or other parameters (see examples displayed). See the legend of each map for details. |
