JAVA: myMapServer requires an up-to-date version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE). You can test your installation on the myMapServer login page:
1. Scroll down until you see JAVA plugin. TEST IT here! (below the graphs)
2. Click on TEST IT here!  What does the pop-up say?
  1. JAVA is enabled" : you are ready to use myMapServer!
  2. "not running !!" : you will have to install the JAVA plugin, which is part of the JAVA JRE/JVM. Please follow the instructions below:

3. Java Plug-in is available free of charge from Sun Microsystems. It is a part of the Sun Java Virtual Machine (JVM) software package. You will need to download the Sun Java Virtual Machine (JVM) to get Java Plug-in. Most browsers have older versions of Java technology already built-in. However, these older versions of Java will not run applets, the Java platform's most advanced features. By installing and using Sun's Java Plug-in, you know that you have the latest Java technology available.
  • Click below on the link to the installation Web page and follow the instructions. You should get one of the following pages, depending on your IP settings:
    • http://java.com/en/download/installed.jsp (English browser) and the question "Verify JAVA?"
    • http://java.com/de/download/index.jsp (German browser) and the question "Habe ich Java bereits?"
    • Other countries may have different versions.
  • Download and Install the Sun Java Virtual Machine (JVM). The installation should be completed in 3-10 minutes, depending on connection speed. Some tips:
    • do it with no other programs open. That makes sure that every prompt you get is answered by you.
    • Make notes if you get prompts.
    • If you are using MS Windows, shut down Windows after installation and leave computer switched off for 20 seconds before restarting
    • Restart your computer. Boot normally, without speeding up. Make notes of unusual prompts you may get.
    • If your JAVA didn't install correctly, best is to do it again or contact java.com to find out why it didn't work.
    • Some infrequent problem reports.
      • a.     Internet explorer settings. Security settings don’t allow installation.
      • b.    Old browser versions.

BROWSERS which myMapServer supports
  • MS Windows (lowest version number): IE (v5.0), and Firefox (1.5.), Opera 9.0. versions ,
  • Mac: Safari
  • Linux: Konqueror 3.4.2 or higher
Other browsers may cause problems or not work at all.

ERRORS: Possible browser related Errors during myMapServer  use are listed below.
1. If after clicking "make Map" you get a message of the form
%subscipt range values of the form low:high must be>=0,<size,withlow><=high:% execution halted at:ION_MAP_REQUEST </size,withlow>

go back to the previous page (on which you have clicked "make Map") and refresh the page. Make sure you have an up-to-date version of the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) - see above. In rare cases this message reflects that the server is highly loaded. Try again a bit later.
A similar error may occur with Firefox 3.0.1 on Linux 64bit, since the 64bit version does not function perfectly with the Javaplugin for x86  - also the 64bit Java version of " IcedTea" (beta release) does not function on meteoblue. Installing the x86 version of Firefox should fix the problem.

myMapServer Use Instructions

myMapServer allows you to generate detail forecasts for any place on earth.
Region and Image type
To start, select a region (Europe, Africa, South America, World, etc.) from the top (light blue) menu bar. Then select the type of image (Map, Meteogram, Sounding, Astronomy Seeing, Cross Section, Trajectory) you want to create from the middle (light blue) menu bar below the  time box.
Maps
You can make maps for any place on Earth with different parameters and timing.
Start by selecting the area: enter the coordinates of the place into the coordinate boxes for North, South, East and West boundary of the desired map, or by drawing the extent of the area on the map.
Select the time for which you want the map from the TIME box above. All times are given in UTC
Select the parameter(s) which you want to see on the map from VARIABLE 1 (and 2)  box below the map. You can combine 2 variables. We recommend to start with 1.
Format the map using colortable, contour annotation, vector/steam density (1 = high, 5 = low), colour scaling (optimized or fixed), image size, and nackground features (surface image, city names, rivers/lakes, roads). We recommend to start with default settings, and then experiment with others.
Meteograms
You can make meteograms for any place on Earth by entering the coordinates of the place. If you don't know the coordinates, go to www.meteoblue.com, select your country and enter your placename. The coordinates of the selected places will be shown and you can transfer them into the coordinate box on myMapServer. Put the latitude in both the North and South box, and the longitude in the East and West box. For Europe, you can select the location from a menu of locations, by selecting the country and entering the placename.
After having the coordinates entered in the coordinate box, view the meteogram by clicking on "make Map". Return to the main screen with "back".
Local services: Soundings, Astronomy Seeing, Cross Section, Trajectory can also be produced by selecting one location, and using the same favorite location.
SAVE your work:
You need to enter coordinates and settings only once, if you need to view a map or meteogram again. After generating the image, go "back" to the main screen, enter a name in the box "Save current settings:  map name" and save it with "Save map". The next time, you can select it directly from "my Maps".
More instructions can be found under the myMapServer HELP button.
This is the only such service available for the world. We hope this makes it useful for you, and appreciate your comments and suggestions!
