Windyty, S.E., the operator of Windy.com, has acquired a majority stake in meteoblue, marking a significant merger between two of the most innovative companies in the weather forecasting industry.
This union will leverage the strengths of both companies, combining expertise and resources to revolutionise the delivery of weather data worldwide.
As leading providers of high-precision weather services, meteoblue and Windy have a long history of collaboration. Over the years, they have shared weather models, web camera data, innovative ideas on user interface and experience, and much more. This partnership formalises and deepens our cooperation, paving the way for unprecedented advancements in meteorological services.
Windy, founded in 2014 in Prague, has rapidly become a global leader in B2C weather forecasting. Windy offers real-time weather data, advanced forecasting, and interactive weather mapping to millions of users worldwide. Its iconic map-based interface and precise predictions have made it indispensable for a wide range of users, including meteorologists, pilots, and outdoor enthusiasts.
Windy's B2C (business-to-customer) focus and strengths will perfectly complement our strong presence in the global B2B (business-to-business) and B2G (business-to-government) markets. By joining forces, meteoblue and windy are poised to set new standards in weather forecasting and data visualisation, delivering enhanced value to users and stakeholders worldwide.
Stay tuned to witness the groundbreaking impact of this industry-defining merger!
Ammending our first announcement, here are a few statements:
As Ivo Lukacovic, founder of Windy.com says: "At Windy, we hold the utmost respect and admiration for the technologies and research conducted by meteoblue. We eagerly anticipate harnessing the full potential of our collaboration."
Dr. Karl Gutbrod, co-founder and CEO of meteoblue: "This partnership is a stepchange milestone in our journey to become the number one premium weather data source worldwide. Joining forces with Windyty, S.E. will expand our global reach, enhance our leading capabilities and unleash new innovation potential. We are enthusiastic with the solution perspectives we can offer by combining the best data with the best visualization."
meteoblue founder, Mathias Müller, added: "From our humble beginnings at the University of Basel to leading technological advancements in weather forecasting, meteoblue has always been driven by innovation. We were already computing 2 km weather forecasts in 2008, something that is still considered an innovation today. Our first machine learning combined dozens of different weather models already in 2018, long before AI became a buzz-word. With Windyty, S.E., we are set to redefine what is possible in the realm of meteorological services and bring the best weather data not just to business customers but to hundreds of millions of users."
In summary:
We are not merging, we are expanding;
Both companies will continue supporting and creating distinctive offers, to better address the needs of more user communities and customer segments;
neither Windy nor meteoblue services will disappear - much the opposite, we will continue to grow and differentiate them.
This is why we are enthusiastic about this alliance.
To all those worried about mergers (have you seen too many of them?): Nothing will disappear, if anything , we will keep improving our distinct services, and hope that you encourage us with your suggestions.

This is exciting. I’ve long used both services and will be interested in what the merger produces.
Lets see what happens...
RIP MeteoBlue i guess....
Not particularly interested to see any "groundbreaking impact" if it messes up any part of the daily weather UI that I was used to. History/climate pages could use some improvement though, also a time graph of the UV Index would be nice, like the ones on the Meteogram, or like what WolframAlpha gives you if you ask about UV Index for your location.
I hope the website doesn't change to be more like Windy. I prefer Meteoblue's interface and how data is presented.
Dear users,
our merger will complement our strong presence, and therefore, nothing will change in our presentation: We will continue to offer distinct services, to satisfy the different user communities and customer segments, and update our communication so this becomes more evident. Your meteoblue Team
Don't change meteoblue to be like Windy
Hope that the UI won't change
Oh oh oh! I've always helped promote and great product/application to many international friends as the best. If the phrase "If it ant broke, dont fix it" turns out to become a so called improved version of innovation that actually is a lemon, then I'll have to reconsider my interest and promotion a great product and not a lemon if it turns out that way.. So, at the moment great for the merger BUT only time will tell if we end users are satisfied or not..
I'm hoping too that the meteoblue UI does not change - I've seen too many weather sites do this, mostly to accommodate even more ads to the detriment of the service. I use meteoblue primarily to plan single-day ascents in mountain areas carrying sensitive radio equipment, and I need to know how the weather will develop hour-by-hour during the day. MB gives great coverage, long may it stay that way.
A lot of talk about how the two companies will remain distinct and continue to offer individual offerings in their own styles. I only hope this will be seen to be true in the long term. Windyty are doing a good job of ruining Windy with pointless tinkering and gimmicks - oh, they have wobbly icons now instead of a decent menu system? I really hope they don't end up ruining meteoblue now too. I wish MB every success during this transition.
Dear users, lots of concerns here... Sure: developing even better platforms is not easy - with milions of users, it's harder to satisfy all preferences than with only thousands. We want to continue to do a better job by making our platforms more flexible to serve even more user segments - and well. Trust and write us (with your suggestions)!
MB every time v Windy. Windy interface is a mess IMHO.
Please please don't let Windy get in Meteoblue space. Meteoblue just outshines everything else including Windy.com
Para mí la interfaz de Windy es la mejor de todo internet. Sin embargo, lo que más me gusta de Meteoblue son sus datos históricos y su multimodel.
I prefer meteoblue UX
