A flood alert has been issued. Groundwater is high, within 50cm of the surface at the East Dean borehole, but slowly falling two centimetres a day. Minor groundwater flood impacts are expected to continue, affecting the ability of the sewage network to operate in East Dean, Charlton, Singleton and West Dean. Water will affect some basements, and be underneath ground floors. Small amounts of water will affect roads, including possibly the B2141 to Chilgrove. Showers are possible Thursday and Friday evenings, with unsettled weather through next week. Generally only minimal flood impacts are expected. However, a lot of rain could affect Sussex Saturday evening, through to midday Sunday 28/04/2024. Groundwater in the villages could rise a couple of centimetres, and may slow in its fall at the Chilgrove borehole. Water will affect roads. Minor flood impacts affecting the sewage network could continue through to mid May. If you have pumps to help reduce groundwater levels in your property, ensure they are operational. - Flood water is dangerous and may be polluted. Wash your hands thoroughly if you’ve been in contact with it.
