A flood alert has been issued. Groundwater levels across the the Plain and the Wiltshire Downs remain high meaning that flooding is still possible after even moderate amounts of rainfall. Our groundwater forecasts indicate that most sites will continue to see a general recession over the next few days. Groundwater Flood Warnings are still in force for the Till, Chitterne, Wylye, Dene valleys and for communities along the Bourne downstream of Cholderton. Flooding of roads is possible and septic tanks may not function effectively over the coming days. Householders with property flood resilience measures such as pumps, barriers and air-brick covers should keep them in place until the risk recedes. Environment Agency staff will continue to monitor the situation. This Flood Alert will remain in force for the next few days at least and will be updated should the forecast change

- Avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water - 30 cm of fast-flowing water can move a car and 6 inches can knock an adult off their feet.
- Flood water is dangerous and may be polluted. Wash your hands thoroughly if you’ve been in contact with it.
