meteoblue day @ home

Our most recent team event took place in our hometown, Basel (Switzerland), where we explored the city from new perspectives.

After a hot and very busy summer, it was time for another team event: On the 3rd of October, the meteoblue team met in Basel to spend a day together in the city. We started our tour at the Historical Museum of Basel. In addition to learning about the city's history, we also discovered some interesting facts about the influence of weather on the city history, and the city's inhabitants, such as famines, garbage removal and diseases, chemical emissions - and the invention of LSD....

We then continued our tour to a traditional restaurant that was once a brewery. Since it no longer produces own beer, our non-alcoholic drinks were a perfect preparation for the next part of the event - which prescribed zero alcohol tolerance: a dragonboat ride on the river Rhine, the water flow of which had swollen to more then 1'500 cubic meters per second (!) due to the recent rainfall.

For boarding the dragonboat on the Rhine, we formed groups of crew who had to be large enough to bring sufficient paddling power against the current, and carefully boarded the boat in the waves. Then, the crew had to quickly learn the paddling, and work closely to synchronise their strokes for moving forward against the currents, for escaping from floating trees and debris, crossing the waves produced by passing ships, and for turning in the currents to reach the point of departure.

Our captains were very experienced by many years of dragonboat racing, and encouraging: according to them, we showed rapid learning and good teamwork and performed better than the professional soccer team of the multiple champion Basel FCB - That was as flattering as the tour was adventurous, the weather variable, and the view of Basel enjoyable from the river's perspective.

We learned a lot about the our hometown, experienced the power of the weather and river, and enjoyed a break from the office, to which we return with new motivation to serve you further.
