Cold air outbreak across east-central Europe

Large parts of Europe are facing a very warm period this week, but a significant Arctic air outbreak from northern Russia will bring colder days for Eastern and Central Europe.

The cold air reaches Europe with easterly winds on the south side of a powerful high-pressure core above Scandinavia. The expected morning frosts will pose a threat to the flowers of early blossoming trees, which have been growing ahead of normal, due to prevailing daytime temperatures of 20°C and above across large parts of Europe until this weekend. The exact expansion of the cold air mass can be seen in our local forecast, which foresees a temperature drop by 10 - 15 °C.
