- A fast moving winter system will move into the area this afternoon into tonight. North of Interstate 94, mainly snow is expected with accumulations of 5-7 inches. South and west of Interstate 94, light freezing rain currently ongoing over central Minnesota is expected to move into the region with ice accumulations of a glaze up to one tenth of an inch. Along Interstate 94, snow accumulations of 1 to 5 inches is expected along with the potential for a glaze of ice accumulation. Regardless of precipitation type, hazardous travel conditions are expected this afternoon into tonight. Winds increase tonight for areas west of the Mississippi River and south of Interstate 90 with gusts of 45+ mph possible. Intense bursts of snow are also possible west of the Mississippi River tonight. Accumulations during this period are expected to be light, generally up to 1 inch, but a period of low visibility and hazardous travel is possible.
