meteoblue promotes young talents

During the last weeks, several school classes visited meteoblue, and we conducted some workshops to give them insights into weather modeling, weather services utilisation and climate change.

meteoblue originated from the University of Basel, where our first weather forecasts were computed and became quickly popular. In 2006, meteoblue was founded as a company to ensure reliable operational forecasts and to better service the industry. Our continued commitment is to give something back, provide meteorological education, and offer different study and training programs in meteorology, IT and business. Therefore, we maintain close relationships with nearby universities and schools.

Recently, a few school classes visited us, and we offered different workshops to ensure that young talents are interested and enthusiastic about meteorology. The students learned about the history, basics and limitations of weather modelling. In addition, we explained and jointly elaborated on how weather data generates value for different industries and their importance in the respective value chains. Since so many applications exist, this was sometimes a challenge, which our students and trainers mastered together, and contributed to understanding the increasing importance of weather services in different industries.

We also gave some insights into our city climate project and showed them one of our weather stations in Basel, which is part of our measurement network.

We are grateful that all students were engaged and now better understand the importance and usefulness of weather data and climate change and its impacts.
