The beekeeper uses meteoblue to check the weather for the next few days to plan different activities in the bee hives, such as taking care of the bees’ health, harvesting honey or breeding queen bees. For planning them, our 14-day forecast is helpful. The variables temperature and wind are particularly critical for the beehives. This data is included in our meteogram, which summarises all relevant information in a simple chart.
Monitoring the wind situation helps to keep the bees safe in their hive. The picture shows that the beehive is relatively high and might be flipped by strong wind gusts. In the case of predicted storms, the beehive is fixed to ensure that it cannot flip over. Our wind maps help observe and monitor the wind conditions for the exact location. Furthermore, weather warnings are a good tool for identifying severe weather events.
The beehive is also regularly inspected for defects to ensure the bees' well-being. Such an inspection needs to be well-planned. Therefore, it is essential to control the temperature- inside and outside of the hive since it has a major influence on the well-being of the bees. They stay inside the hives if temperatures are below 12°C, and there, they regulate the temperatures on their own by shutting down their metabolism to a minimum level. By doing this, the inside temperatures reach 20 to 30°C, whereas this value is also strongly influenced by the outside temperatures.
To make sure that the temperature inside the beehives is not decreasing too much, inspections are only possible when outdoor temperatures exceed 17°C. This is again where current temperature data are taken into consideration.
