point+ for paragliding champions

meteoblue was presented at this year’s Czech-Bulgarian-Slovak paragliding national championships, and we gladly supported all participants with our weather data and sponsored prices.

The competition took place in Sopot (Bulgaria) and was scheduled for 6 days. More than 100 pilots from 16 different countries have participated. The pilots have been competing in various challenges, such as flying 90km across Sopot Valley.

Our weather data have been used as an info channel to send the latest weather information to the pilots. Some weather information, like our sounding diagrams or weather maps, was displayed in the take-off area.
As the weather is "changeable", two days of the competition had to be cancelled because of a rainy cold front. Still, this time was used to provide the pilots with some insides into weather modelling and train them in interpreting weather data.

Since we offer many functions in our point+ subscription for aviation, these data have also been used for the training. Especially the following functions are helpful for paragliding:

  • Sounding: It shows the weather development from ground to stratosphere level.
  • Thermal forecast: This diagram forecast contains the densest aggregation of atmospheric data. The carefully assembled graphs include detailed information about surface conditions, stability indices, lapse rate, humidity, clouds and winds.
  • Weather maps: Our map interface provides access to several weather maps from different weather models and altitudes. It also offers the option of drawing cross sections for detailed flight planning.
  • Meteogram AIR: This diagram shows the essential weather information like temperature, wind and cloud cover in different altitudes, and additional data such as precipitation and radiation.
  • The competition winners received a point+ subscription, which supports them in preparation for the next flights and championships.

After a successful event and safe landings, participants, organizers, and winners were pleased with the prizes and the overall forecasting for the whole camp and look forward to future flights.
