Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Arroyos, streams, and normally dry rivers can become raging killer currents in a matter of minutes. Water in arroyos can travel many miles and take hours to reach your location from upstream rain areas.
An extremely moist atmosphere will create numerous showers and storms across the area late Wednesday morning through the overnight. Slow storm motions combined with rainfall rates greater than 2 inches per hour will produce locally torrential rainfall totals.
-
WHAT: Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible.
-
WHERE: Portions of central, east central, north central, northeast, and west central New Mexico, including the following areas, in central New Mexico, Central Highlands, Eastern Lincoln County, Estancia Valley and South Central Mountains.
