The National Weather Service in Albany has issued a

  • Flash Flood Warning for, Southwestern Albany County in east central New York, Northeastern Greene County in east central New York,

  • Until 630 AM EDT.

  • At 317 AM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.

    • Periods of moderate to heavy rain and a few thunderstorms continue overnight into Wednesday afternoon. Rainfall rates may reach as high as 1 to 2 inches per hour within the heaviest and most persistent downpours.

Despite recent dry conditions, such high rainfall rates in a short period of time can result in flash flooding, especially in urban and poor drainage areas and where heavy rain repeatedly impacts a given area. An additional 1 to 2 inches of rain is expected for most areas in the flood watch, with locally higher amounts possible.
