Here is the latest Tropical Cyclone Warning Bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory. The Standby Signal, No. 1 is in force. This means that a tropical cyclone now centred within about 800 kilometres of Hong Kong may affect us. At 5 p.m., Tropical Storm Wutip was estimated to be about 650 kilometres south-southwest of Hong Kong (near 16.9 degrees north 111.8 degrees east) and is forecast to move west-northwest at about 12 kilometres per hour in the general direction of Hainan Island and intensify gradually. It will then move towards the vicinity of Leizhou Peninsula to Beibu Wan. Squally showers associated with Wutip are affecting the coast of Guangdong. Meanwhile, Wutip is consolidating. Under the combined effect of its broad circulation and the ridge of high pressure over the coast of southeastern China, there will be occasionally strong easterlies over parts of Hong Kong tonight and early tomorrow (12 June). Unless Wutip intensifies rapidly and strong winds prevail generally over the territory, the Standby Signal, No. 1 will remain in force tonight and tomorrow morning. According to the present forecast, although local winds will weaken slightly at first on Friday, local winds will become southerlies gradually afterwards and there will be occasional heavy squally showers. Winds may be generally strong over the territory. Depending on Wutip’s intensity at that time, distance from Hong Kong and the change in local wind condition, the Observatory will assess the need of issuing the Strong Wind Signal, No. 3 on Friday. There are swells. Members of the public are advised to stay away from the shoreline and not to engage in water sports.

Fishing vessels and low power vessels in open sea should seek shelter as soon as possible and be secured properly with moorings. 6. Construction and property management practitioners should make sure that overhanging facilities and temporary structures outdoors are securely fastened, and should take precautionary measures. 7.
