Atmospheric moisture will remain unprecedentedly high this afternoon and evening enabling numerous showers and thunderstorms to redevelop. Stronger storms will be capable of producing rain at rates over 1 inch per half hour. Storm movement will also be slow and erratic, increasing the risk of flash flooding.

  • WHAT: Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.

  • WHERE: Portions of north central and northwest New Mexico, including the following areas, in north central New Mexico, Espanola Valley, Far Northwest Highlands, Jemez Mountains, Northwest Highlands and Tusas Mountains Including Chama. In northwest New Mexico, Chuska Mountains and Northwest Plateau.

  • WHEN: Until 6 AM MDT early this morning.

  • IMPACTS: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Low-water crossings may be flooded.

  • ADDITIONAL DETAILS:

    • Scattered to isolated showers and thunderstorms will continue through the late night hours. Any additional rainfall will exacerbate ongoing flooding where it is already occurring.
