meteoblue Spring Day in the Basel region

We like to hike: The meteoblue team spent its first team event of the year in the Basel region with very mixed weather and results

In times of home office, it's even more important to have team events, fresh air and nature. That's what we were seeking in our first team event of the year on the 22nd of May. To protect our nature, we took public transportation to a beautiful hiking spot in the Jura mountains South of Basel, Switzerland. The area is called „Wasserfallen, which means "waterfall". However, the location’s name was actually determined by the weather because the region is often covered by clouds spilling over the Jura crest and moving downwards into the valleys, making them look like a waterfall, as you can see in the picture and our satellite image.

Also, the actual weather was at moments a "waterfall", with several heavy showers which caught and soaked us during our event - followed by moments of clear sky and sunshine. Luckily, our precipitation radar was always open, supporting us to find the dry moments during which we engaged in open-air ropes course and "farmer challenges". There, different teams competed to win the famous Basel cookies, earning points by cross-country skiing with 3-meter-long wooden skis, throwing rubber boots and sawing logs. Another group scrambled into a climbing adventure park with zip lines and bungee jumps, raising our team’s adrenaline slightly.

The maximum was reached after lunch when the entire group dived downhill on Kick scooters. What is usually a child game in the backstreet became a speed race on gravel tracks, which produced some funny stunts and surprises and showed everyone that gravity has multiple effects.

Anyway, we're all safe at home and even thrilled to see how our services can be used for many different situations, such as hiking, biking, and tracking the weather in the mountains.
