Gerçek zamanlı uydu görüntüsü gündüz süresince görülür ışığı gece süresince kızılötesi ışınım ile birleştirir. Gece kızılötesi ışınım sıcaklık farklarını algılayabildiğinden dolayı görüntü karanlık değildir. Ancak düşük bulutları ve sisi yer sıcaklığından ayırmak zordur ve bu nedenle gece boyunca neredeyse görünmez olabilirler. Avrupa için Meteosat uydu görüntüleri gerçek zamanlı olarak her 5 dakikada bir güncellenir. GOES-16/GOES-17 (Kuzey ve Güney Amerika) ve Himawari (Asya) görüntüleri her 10 dakikada bir güncellenir.

Yağış radar ve uydulardan tahmin edilir. Uydulardan elde edilen yağış tahminleri geceleri gündüze göre daha az doğrudur.
