-
WHAT: Dangerous rip currents expected.
-
WHERE: Walton, Bay, Gulf, and Franklin County Beaches.
-
WHEN: Through late Thursday night.
-
IMPACTS: Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water.
-
ADDITIONAL DETAILS: Early this morning, the buoy located about 90 miles south of Apalachicola was observing south-southwesterly waves of 3 feet at 8 seconds. This will easily cause sufficiently energetic surf to support a high risk of rip currents today. Then a prolonged period of strong easterly breezes will set up over the northeast Gulf late today, lasting until about Friday morning. This will confidently maintain a prolonged period of high rip current risk at all area beaches.

Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
