THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 436 IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 PM MDT THIS EVENING FOR THE FOLLOWING AREAS IN NEW MEXICO THIS WATCH INCLUDES 7 COUNTIES IN CENTRAL NEW MEXICO LINCOLN TORRANCE IN EAST CENTRAL NEW MEXICO GUADALUPE IN NORTH CENTRAL NEW MEXICO LOS ALAMOS SANDOVAL SANTA FE IN NORTHEAST NEW MEXICO SAN MIGUEL THIS INCLUDES THE CITIES OF ALTO, BANDELIER NATIONAL MONUMENT, BONITO LAKE, CLINES CORNERS, CONCHAS, ESTANCIA, GRAN QUIVIRA, LAS VEGAS, LOS ALAMOS, MCINTOSH, MORIARTY, MOUNTAINAIR, RIO RANCHO, RUIDOSO, SANTA FE, SANTA ROSA, AND WHITE ROCK.
At 657 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 2 and 4 inches of rain have fallen. Flooding impacts will continue, but no additional rainfall is expected. Flash flooding was reported along Highway 542 at 530pm.

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Arroyos, streams, and normally dry rivers can become raging killer currents in a matter of minutes. Water in arroyos can travel many miles and take hours to reach your location from upstream rain areas.

IMPACTS: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Low-water crossings are inundated with water and may not be passable. It will take several hours for all the water from these storms to work through local drainage systems in urban areas.
