The Ministry of Environment and Tourism, through the Department of Meteorological Services, wishes to inform members of the public of expected weather conditions over parts of the country. Scattered thundershowers are anticipated over the Southern, South-East, Kgatleng and Kweneng districts on 13th April 2026. From 15th to 17th April 2026, these thundershowers are expected to expand in coverage to include Ghanzi, Kgalagadi, Southern, South-East, Kgatleng and Kweneng districts. Rainfall amounts of 50 mm or more are likely in some areas, which may lead to flash flooding, particularly in low-lying and poorly drained areas. These wet conditions are associated with mid-level atmospheric instability linked to a westerly trough, coupled with enhanced convective activity from a surface trough.
Considering the expected scattered rains, the public is advised to take the precautionary measures to stay safe from the likely impacts of the conditions. Precautionary measures include moving to higher ground immediately if you are in a flood prone area and avoiding driving through floodwaters. The Department of Meteorological Services will continue to monitor the situation as it unfolds and will provide updates when the need arises.
