A flood alert has been issued. River levels are peaking on the Rivers Ehen, Calder, Irt and Esk due to the recent heavy rainfall today. Areas most at risk include Rivers Ehen, Calder, Irt and Esk and other watercourses, from Harrington to Annaside including low lying areas around Whitehaven, Cleator Moor, Egremont, Gosforth, Eskdale and Bootle. No property flooding is expected but continued rainfall is forecast today Thursday 23/05/2024. We are monitoring rainfall and river levels and are checking rivers for blockages in the area. Avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses and do not attempt to walk or drive through flood water. We will continue to monitor the forecast and re-issue this alert if necessary. This message will be updated by 5:00 PM on 23/05/2024, or as the situation changes.

Areas most at risk include Lower Derwent from Bassenthwaite Lake to the coast at Workington. The Cocker from Crummock Water to Cockermouth.
