An active front is moving southwards across central and northern parts of Northland tonight, and onto Auckland and Coromandel Peninsula later tonight and overnight. There is a moderate risk of SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS with this front, especially about coastal areas, with localised torrential downpours in excess of 40 mm/h possible. There is also a chance of a small coastal tornado. Note, expect rain and thunderstorms to ease over Northland from the north tonight.
