  • WHAT: Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues.

  • WHERE: Northern Jewell County in north central Kansas, Nuckolls County in south central Nebraska, Thayer County in south central Nebraska,

  • WHEN: Until noon CDT Thursday.

  • IMPACTS: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Streams continue to rise due to excess runoff from earlier rainfall.

  • ADDITIONAL DETAILS:

    • At 307 AM CDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated that much of the Warning area had picked up at least 2.5 to 4.5 inches of rain in the last few hours. Emergency management has reported water over Highway 136 in the Deshler area, and many county roads are experiencing significant flooding. Area creeks and rivers will experience significant rises, and mainly minor flooding of some main rivers is also possible. Additional off and on, mainly light, rain is possible today. Dry conditions return by tonight and will likely persist for at least several days.
    • This includes the following streams and drainages, Burr Oak Creek, Limestone Creek, Little Sandy Creek, Moorehouse Creek, Beaver Creek, Big Sandy Creek, Spring Branch, Middle Creek, Buffalo Creek, Big Timber Creek, Spring Creek, East Marsh Creek, Walnut Creek, Elk Creek, Middle Limestone Creek, Advent Creek, Little Oak Creek, Lost Creek, South Fork Big Sandy Creek, Dry Creek, White Rock Creek, Cottonwood Creek, Liberty Creek and Oak Creek.
    • Some locations that could experience flooding include, Superior, Hebron, Deshler, Nelson, Lawrence, Davenport, Bruning, Chester, Alexandria, Burr Oak, Hardy, Ruskin, Esbon, Carleton, Byron, Hubbell, Oak, Belvidere, Gilead and Webber.

    • Forecast: The river will rise above flood stage around midday today and crest near 11.2 feet this evening. It will then fall below flood stage late this evening to 10.0 feet Friday morning.

  • WHERE: Portions of north central Kansas, including the following counties, Jewell, Mitchell, Osborne, Phillips, Rooks and Smith and Nebraska, including the following counties, Adams, Clay, Fillmore, Franklin, Nuckolls, Thayer, Webster and York.

  • WHEN: Through this evening.

  • IMPACTS: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks.

  • ADDITIONAL DETAILS:

    • At least 2-6+" of rainfall have already fallen across the watch area so far with potentially 0.5-1" more possible to still fall for mainly a few north central Kansas areas. Though the threat for heavy rainfall has come to an end for most of the Nebraska portions of the watch area, the threat for flooding still remains. Some areas, especially locations near low-lying/poor drainage areas or along the banks of some rivers/creeks/streams, could still see flooding. Even after precipitation comes to an end, the threat for rising water levels to which some rivers or streams exceed their banks remains.
