Sheep graziers are warned that cold temperatures, rain and showers and southwesterly winds are expected during Friday and Saturday. Areas likely to be affected include the Illawarra, South Coast, Southern Tablelands and Snowy Mountains forecast districts and parts of the Northern Tablelands, Central Tablelands, South West Slopes and Australian Capital Territory forecast districts. There is a risk of losses of lambs and sheep exposed to these conditions.

DAMAGING SOUTHERLY WIND GUSTS with peak gusts of around 100 km/h are likely to continue into the evening over elevated parts of the Snowy Mountains and more coastal locations in the South Coast / Illawarra districts. Wind gusts right along the coastal fringe of the South Coast and Illawarra may still reach 110-120 km/h, especially in more exposed locations.

      For ALPINE areas above 1900 m: DAMAGING WINDS averaging 80 to 90 km/h remain possible throughout the evening.

      Conditions are expected to ease below warning thresholds starting later this evening and throughout the overnight hours.

      Locations which may be affected include parts of the Sydney coast, Wollongong, Nowra, Batemans Bay, Eden, Cooma and Bega.  

      A 115 km/h wind gust was recorded at Point Perpendicular (near Jervis Bay) at 4:23 pm.
      A 119 km/h wind gust was recorded more recently at Montague Island Lighthouse at 4:23 pm.
      A 130 km/h wind gust was recorded at Montague Island Lighthouse at 1:53 pm.
      A 118 km/h wind gust was recorded at Green Cape at 11:41 am.
      A 118 km/h wind gust was recorded at Mallacoota (Victoria) at 10:07 am.
