,FIRE WEATHER WATCH MONDAY FROM 11 AM UNTIL 10 PM ALONG AND EAST OF THE NORTH CENTRAL MOUNTAINS AND MIDDLE RIO GRANDE VALLEY, AND FROM 3 PM UNTIL 10 PM FOR AREAS FARTHER WEST, DUE TO STRONG WIND AND LOW HUMIDITY,

  • A weather pattern conducive for large fire growth will develop Sunday and continue through Wednesday as a broad trough develops over the western United States keeping the flow over New Mexico dry and windy. The strongest winds and critically low relative humidity values Sunday will favor the central mountain chain and northeast highlands westward. Then, relative humidity plummets over eastern areas as well on Monday. Winds will strengthen over central and eastern areas late Monday morning, but not until mid afternoon farther west.

  • AREA AND TIMING: The northern and central mountains (Zones 120, 122, and 124) below snowpack, and the Rio Grande Valley (Zones 121 and 106) on Sunday from noon until 10 PM MDT, and from 11 AM until 10 PM on Monday.
  • 20 FOOT WINDS: On Sunday, south and southwest 20 to 35 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. On Monday, west 20 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph.

  • RELATIVE HUMIDITY: 7-20 percent.

  • IMPACTS: Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly and will be hard to control. Long range spotting and extreme fire behavior will be possible. Outdoor burning should not be done.
