A flood alert has been issued. Groundwater levels are high and relatively stable after a month’s rain (59mm) has been recorded at Bishops Sutton in the last week. At Preston Candover, the level is 7cm lower than this time last week. At Old Alresford the level is 12cm lower. Cellar flooding is expected to be affecting properties in the Candovers, Northington, and Old Alresford. In Old Alresford, internal ground floor flooding is affecting isolated properties. Septic tanks will be struggling to operate effectively in all locations. From today (02/05/2024) to Monday (06/05/2024), further spells of rain, some of which may be heavy, are forecast in Hampshire with between 10 and 50mm possible during this time. Groundwater levels are expected to remain relatively stable or could even rise slightly. However, they are expected to begin slowly falling again within the next week. We continue to monitor the levels and forecast. If you have pumps to help reduce water levels, please ensure that they are operating. What to expect: There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds; Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services; There is a small chance of fast flowing or deep floodwater causing danger to life; Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures; There is a small chance that some communities become cut off by flooded roads; There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost.
A flood alert has been issued. Groundwater levels in Deane and Ashe remain high, but are slowly falling. Over the weekend, half a month’s rain (25mm) was recorded at Overton. At our borehole in Oakley, the level has fallen by 23cm. We expect properties in Deane to be pumping water from their cellars. Groundwater spring flows are impacting land and roads. The access road from the B3400 into Deane (at Deane Park) is closed. Septic tanks will be struggling to operate effectively. Today (29/04/2024) and Tuesday (30/04/2024) are expected to be relatively dry. Further rain is expected to affect Hampshire from Wednesday (01/05/2024) to Friday (03/05/2024) with between 20 and 70mm of rain possible in these three days. It is likely levels will continue to slowly fall, but if heavy rainfall affects the area, then groundwater levels could begin to stabilise within the next couple of weeks.
