  • WHEN: Through late tonight.

  • IMPACTS: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Low-water crossings may be flooded.

  • ADDITIONAL DETAILS:

    • Numerous showers and storms will continue through the overnight hours. Locally heavy rainfall rates in excess of 1 half inch per hour will be capable of producing rapid runoff that can lead to flash flooding, particularly below recent burn scars and areas with saturated soils.

The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a

  • Flash Flood Warning for, North Central San Miguel County in northeastern New Mexico,

  • Until 730 PM MDT.

  • At 432 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1 inch are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is already occurring.

HAZARD,Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

SOURCE,Radar indicated.

IMPACT,Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

  • Some locations that will experience flash flooding include, Las Vegas and Storrie Lake State Park.

This includes the following highways, State Road 518 between Mile Markers 1 and 6. State Road 283 near Mile Marker 1. Interstate 25 between Mile Markers 341 and 355. State Road 104 between Mile Markers 1 and 3.

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. In hilly or mountainous terrain there are numerous low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route.
