A flood alert has been issued. "River levels are rising at the Leicester Tuffleys Way river gauge as a result of heavy rainfall. Consequently, flooding is possible from 09:00 today, 28/04/24. Areas most at risk are low-lying roads and land around the brooks in Leicester City, including recreational land where water depths could become hazardous. Areas particularly at risk include those around the Braunstone Brook, Lubbesthorpe Brook, Melton Brook, Saffron Brook, Willow Brook, Bushby Brook, Evington Brook, Thurnby Brook and Scraptoft Brook. Further heavy rainfall is forecast over the next 6 hours. We expect river levels to rise until 15:00 on 28/04/24. We are closely monitoring the situation. Our incident response staff are checking debris screens for blockages. Please avoid using low-lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low-lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded. This message will be updated by 19:00 this evening, 28/04/24, or as the situation changes."
