THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 272 IN EFFECT UNTIL MIDNIGHT CDT TONIGHT FOR THE FOLLOWING AREAS IN IOWA THIS WATCH INCLUDES 3 COUNTIES IN NORTH CENTRAL IOWA FLOYD MITCHELL IN NORTHEAST IOWA HOWARD IN MINNESOTA THIS WATCH INCLUDES 5 COUNTIES IN SOUTHEAST MINNESOTA DODGE FILLMORE MOWER OLMSTED WABASHA THIS INCLUDES THE CITIES OF AUSTIN, CHARLES CITY, CRESCO, DODGE CENTER, OSAGE, PRESTON, ROCHESTER, AND WABASHA.
Funnel clouds have been reported during the past few minutes, mostly over southeast Minnesota. These funnel clouds normally do not touch the ground. As a result, they rarely do any damage and last only a few minutes. However, remain on the alert and be prepared to move to a place of safety if a funnel should approach the ground. Atmospheric conditions over will continue to be favorable for the formation of short lived funnels during the next several hours.
At 657 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located near Dodge Center, moving northeast at 10 mph. At 655 pm, spotters reported quarter size hail at State Hyway 56 and 690th Street.

Conditions are favorable for the development of weak, brief funnel clouds. This type of funnel cloud is harmless, but on rare occasions they can briefly touch down, producing wind gusts over 50 mph. If a funnel cloud is spotted move indoors and report your sighting to the National Weather Service.
