L'image satellite en temps réel combine la lumière visible pendant la journée et le rayonnement infrarouge pendant la nuit. La nuit, l'image n'est pas sombre car le rayonnement infrarouge permet de détecter les différences de température. Malheureusement, les nuages bas et le brouillard sont difficiles à distinguer des températures au sol et peuvent donc être presque invisibles pendant la nuit. Les précipitations sont estimées à partir de radars et de satellites. Les estimations des précipitations par satellite sont moins précises la nuit que le jour.
