  • WHAT: Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.

  • WHERE: Including the following areas, Upper Kuskokwim Valley. This includes the cities of McGrath, Nikolai, And Takotna.

  • WHEN: From Monday afternoon through Friday afternoon.

  • IMPACTS: The Kuskokwim River is currently at bankfull. Soils remain moist and excessive runoff may result in localized flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, other low-lying areas and flood-prone locations.

  • ADDITIONAL DETAILS:

    • Heavy rain is forecast to begin Monday afternoon. Rain should continue through Wednesday morning with storm total rainfall expected to be around 1 to 2 inches. Minor pooling/ponding of water in low-lying and flood prone areas is possible with the already saturated ground conditions beginning on Tuesday. Small stream and creek flooding is possible as we expect very high water levels throughout the week in response to the heavy rain.

    • The Kuskokwim River at McGrath is at bankfull as of 12:00PM AKDT Sunday September 13th. Water levels are forecast to drop below bankfull by Monday morning. River levels are expected to rise again in response to the heavy rain beginning Monday afternoon and remain high through the rest of the week.

    • We will continue to monitor the situation closely and update as necessary.
