A flood alert has been issued. Property flooding is not currently expected. River levels are high but stable on the Hughenden Stream due to high groundwater levels. Flooding of low lying land and roads remains possible but not expected, especially in areas closest to the Hughenden Stream in High Wycombe. The weather forecast for this week is unsettled. Showers are possible each day, with potentially heavier showers on Saturday 18th and Tuesday 21st. River levels are expected to remain high and will be sensitive to further rainfall. We are closely monitoring the situation. Avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses. Go to the 'River and Sea levels in England' webpage for current river levels. A flood alert has been issued. Groundwater levels remain high but are falling slowly at our two boreholes Piddington and Ray Farm borehole in the High Wycombe area. Groundwater levels are above normal for this time of year and remain at a level where communities may continue to be affected by groundwater flooding. Groundwater levels remain sensitive to further rainfall due to saturated ground and high groundwater levels. Low-lying land, gardens, roads, and cellars may therefore be at risk of flooding. Due to the nature of groundwater flooding, this situation could continue for several weeks or longer. Avoid driving or walking through floodwater as there may be concealed hazards. We are continuing to monitor groundwater levels and will update this message next week by 14/05/2024, or as the situation changes.
