The Ministry of Environment and Tourism, through the Department of Meteorological Services, wishes to inform the public of the expected scattered thundershowers over the southern parts of the country from 4th to 6th September 2026. These conditions are expected to be accompanied by fresh to strong winds ranging from 26 to 60 km/h over most parts of the country. The expected wet conditions are associated with the influence of a cut-off low-pressure system, which will enhance atmospheric instability and promote the development of thunderstorms over the southern parts of the country.
Considering the expected heavy rains, thunderstorms and strong winds, the public is advised to take the necessary precautionary measures, including avoiding crossing flooded roads, streams and rivers, staying indoors during thunderstorms, and securing loose objects that may be blown away by strong winds. The Department of Meteorological Services will continue to monitor the situation as it unfolds and will provide updates when the need arises.
