Gusty to strong westerly winds will develop over much of central and north-central Montana by this evening. The combination of the frontal passage with isolated shower and thunderstorm activity will result in brief instances of wind gusts exceeding 50 mph. These winds may cause more damage to trees and power lines than what is normally observed due to most trees being fully leafed out and some trees being weakened by previous storms. Additionally, any damaged tree branches may break loose and become projectiles. Pedestrians and those outdoors should watch for flying debris and avoid being near trees if possible during times of stronger winds. Also, those traveling along north to south oriented roadways should be prepared for strong cross winds.
