Tropical Storm Bavi (09W) is currently located about 340 miles to the north-northeast of Pohnpei near 11.9N 158.5E, or roughly 545 miles northeast of Chuuk, and is moving west-northwest at 15 mph. Maximum sustained winds are 60 mph. Bavi is expected to generally track west-northwest through the coming days. Although the time frame is still uncertain, and Yap and Palau are expected to remain outside of Bavi's direct wind field, surging west to southwest winds around 20 to 25 knots are expected to develop across the region south to southwest of the storm. Models suggest west winds around 15 to 20 knots will begin to pick up for Yap and Palau late Sunday, peaking sometime early next week with potential to generate choppy, hazardous seas which could make inter-island travel hazardous. As TS Bavi develops and begins to move north to northeast of the region, surging west to southwest swell looks to develop, which will lead to elevated, and potentially hazardous surf in the first half of next week.
