THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 245 IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM EDT THIS EVENING FOR THE FOLLOWING AREAS IN SOUTH CAROLINA THIS WATCH INCLUDES 12 COUNTIES IN CENTRAL SOUTH CAROLINA CALHOUN CHESTERFIELD CLARENDON FAIRFIELD KERSHAW LANCASTER LEE LEXINGTON NEWBERRY ORANGEBURG RICHLAND SUMTER THIS INCLUDES THE CITIES OF BATESBURG-LEESVILLE, BISHOPVILLE, BROOKDALE, CAMDEN, CAYCE, CHERAW, COLUMBIA, ELGIN, ELGIN, LANCASTER, LANCASTER MILL, LEXINGTON, LUGOFF, MANNING, NEWBERRY, OAK GROVE, ORANGEBURG, PAGELAND, RED BANK, SEVEN OAKS, SPRINGDALE, ST. MATTHEWS, SUMMERTON, SUMTER, WEST COLUMBIA, WINNSBORO, AND WINNSBORO MILLS.
At 540 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from 9 miles northwest of Orangeburg to 6 miles south of McBean. Movement was east at 60 mph.
