  • Critical fire weather conditions are forecast across the Upper Rio Grande Valley and Lower Chama River Valley and eastern New Mexico Thursday afternoon and evening. Stronger southwest to west winds are expected south of a storm system moving across the northern and central Rockies with gusts up to 40 mph during the afternoon hours. West winds will bring in a drier airmass and cause relative humidity values to quickly plummet into the single digits. In addition, the atmosphere is forecast to be unstable with excellent mixing.

The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a Red Flag Warning,which is in effect from noon to 8 PM MDT Thursday. The Fire Weather Watch is no longer in effect.
