Temperatures may briefly drop 32 degrees Wednesday morning in the Northwest Plateau, including Farmington and Shiprock. Locations closer to the San Juan river and other nearby river valleys will have a greater chance of dropping below freezing. A Freeze Warning may be issued for Thursday morning when temperatures may drop below freezing for up to 3 hours. Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above- ground pipes to protect them from freezing.
