Periods of very heavy rainfall will be possible through the remainder of the afternoon. Rainfall rates of one to three inches per hour will make driving conditions dangerous. Ponding of water will be likely in poor drainage areas.

  • WHAT: Urban and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.

  • WHERE: A portion of central Alabama, including the following counties, Calhoun, Cherokee, Cleburne, Etowah, St. Clair and Talladega.

  • WHEN: Until 530 PM CDT.

  • IMPACTS: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Overflowing poor drainage areas. Ponding of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent.

  • ADDITIONAL DETAILS:

    • At 217 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain. This will cause urban and small stream flooding.
    • Rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding.

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

At 251 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from near Steele to 6 miles southeast of Glencoe to near Pleasant Gap. Movement was northeast at 40 mph.

HAZARD,Wind gusts up to 50 mph.

IMPACT,Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects.

Locations impacted include, Gadsden, Jacksonville, Rainbow City, Attalla, Piedmont, Hokes Bluff, Centre, Cedar Bluff, Little River Canyon National Preserve, Forney, Centre Municipal Airport, Glencoe, Leesburg, Reece City, Sand Rock, Gaylesville, Cherokee Rock Village, Pleasant Gap, Cornwall Furnace Park, and Blanche.
