HOT, DRY, AND WINDY FRIDAY AND SATURDAY

  • Scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop across far eastern Oregon and western Idaho on Thursday. Storms will be capable of frequent lightning, gusty outflow winds, and only sporadic wetting rains. While the thunderstorm threat will end by Friday and Saturday, hot, dry, and windy conditions will develop, primarily across southeast Oregon and the higher terrain of southwest Idaho. The driest and windiest day at this time is expected on Saturday.

The National Weather Service in Boise has issued a Red Flag Warning for lightning, which is in effect from noon MDT /11 AM PDT/ today to 9 PM MDT /8 PM PDT/ this evening.

  • AFFECTED AREA: In Idaho, Fire Weather Zone 423 Owyhee Mountains. In Oregon, Fire Weather Zone 672 Southern Grasslands.

  • TIMING: For the Red Flag Warning, from noon MDT /11 AM PDT/ today to 9 PM MDT /8 PM PDT/ this evening. For the Fire Weather Watch, from Friday afternoon through Saturday evening.

  • THUNDERSTORMS: Scattered coverage with abundant lightning.

  • OUTFLOW WINDS: For the Fire Weather Watch, gusty erratic winds up to 50 mph.

  • WINDS: For the Fire Weather Watch, southwest 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph.

  • RELATIVE HUMIDITY: 7 to 14 percent.

  • IMPACTS: Any fire that develops will catch and spread quickly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.

Instructies:

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1.
