  • WHAT: Urban and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.

  • WHERE: A portion of southeast New York, including the following counties, Orange, Putnam and Rockland.

  • WHEN: Until 700 PM EDT.

  • IMPACTS: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Water over roadways.

  • ADDITIONAL DETAILS:

    • At 354 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. This is causing urban and small stream flooding. Between 0.5 and 1.5 inches of rain have fallen.
    • Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding.
    • Some locations that will experience flooding include, New City, Newburgh, Monsey, Nanuet, Suffern, Monroe, West Point, Sloatsburg, Cold Spring, New Windsor, Gardnertown, Pomona, Harriman, Spring Valley, Kiryas Joel, Stony Point, Woodbury, West Haverstraw, Airmont and Chestnut Ridge.

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.

  • WHEN: Through Wednesday evening.

  • IMPACTS: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.

  • ADDITIONAL DETAILS:

    • A slow moving low pressure system will bring multiple rounds of heavy showers and thunderstorms to the area today through Wednesday. Average rainfall amounts are expected to be between 3 and 5 inches with localized higher amounts. Peak hourly rainfall rates could be as high as 2 to 3 inches in the heaviest showers and thunderstorms. Most of the rainfall is expected to fall through tonight, however flooding is still possible on Wednesday.
