  • IMPACTS: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Travel could be difficult.

  • WHAT: Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible.

  • WHERE: Including the following areas, Upper Kuskokwim Valley. This includes the cities of McGrath, Nikolai, And Takotna.

  • WHEN: Through Friday afternoon.

  • IMPACTS: The Kuskokwim River is currently at bankfull. Soils remain moist and excessive runoff may result in localized flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, other low-lying areas and flood-prone locations.

  • ADDITIONAL DETAILS:

    • Heavy rain is forecasted to begin Monday afternoon. Rain should continue through Wednesday morning with storm total rainfall expected to be around 1 to 2 inches. Minor pooling/ponding of water in low-lying and flood prone areas is possible with the already saturated ground conditions beginning on Tuesday. Small stream and creek flooding is possible as we expect very high water levels throughout the week in response to the heavy rain.

    • The Kuskokwim River dropped below bankfull Monday morning. River levels are expected to rise again in response to the heavy rain beginning Monday afternoon and remain high through the rest of the week.

    • We will continue to monitor the situation closely and update as necessary.
