It has become a Christmas tradition to offer free access to point+, our premium website subscription, for all our users! This time, we will open point+ from December 24th to January 1st. If you are currently not using the functions of point+, make sure to give them a try! point+ enables you to access all our advanced diagrams, maps, and tools with high-precision, widely used for many purposes: from skiing, snow-shoeing and hiking to mountaineering, sailing, and many other applications.
In the following, we have summarized the most important innovations in 2022:
January: New Weather Today
Our Weather Today page has received some substantial enhancements like rainNOW for most of Europe and the US, with precise radar updates, radar and Satellite maps for every place in the world and airport METARs have been extended with TAF. In addition, our pictograms are updated quarter-hourly with the latest 15-minute satellite information and also include fog.
February: New MultiModel selection
The meteoblue MultiModel has been one of our flagship products since its introduction, which is why we are happy to introduce a significant upgrade in its interface by enabling the option to select models.
March: Warnings in meteoMail
Weather warnings became available and are shown on the warnings page, in our weather maps, and you can even subscribe to email notifications through meteoMail. Lately, warnings have also been added to our apps.
April: Website Darkmode is back and climate predictions have been added to history+
We already offered a Darkmode some years ago, but had to stop offering it because of technical limitations. Since we received much feedback regarding this, the Darkmode came back to life in April!
Darkmode can be enabled via the website settings in the upper right corner of the website.
In addition to that, there was also the implementation of the climate predictions.
These predictions are available through our history+ interface. A free version can be found for the city of Basel, Switzerland.
The climate predictions offer an easy summary of complex climate change simulations for any location on Earth, reaching until the year 2100, based on different emission scenarios of the IPCC report.
May: Implementation of satellite and radar archive
meteoblue launched unique historical satellite cloud maps available since December 2019 - worldwide and in the highest available precision - the first of its kind worldwide. The satellite history for the past week is available free of charge. The whole satellite history is part of our point+ subscription, which you can also test for 2 weeks without any obligations.
June: New pictos and improved weather reports
It has taken us some time to draw pictograms for all imaginable weather situations. This update filled the last gaps to distinguish thunderstorm and cloud cover situations better. Furthermore, our weather text on the start page has been improved in English and French, for better and more enjoyable reading!
July: Hourly overview re-design and ISO9001:2015 certification
Our hourly weather overview was re-designed as a temperature arch, summarising hourly weather information in a curve decorated by colours, weather symbols, and daylight time. You can see the hourly weather view directly on our start page with the extended view. We have also added a line that shows the current time for rapid orientation during the day - and of course, all data are continuously updated with the most recent measurements and observations.
In addition, we have received the official approval of the meteoblue quality management system in July. ISO9001:2015 certification confirms that the meteoblue data and services conform to high industry standards.
August: City Climate update
In addition to Basel and Zurich, we have extended our city climate offer and added Tallinn (Estonia) to our website. The live measurement data are displayed on the designated city climate page for Tallin.
In addition, a new chart for each city was added, analysing historical weather data such as summer and heat days or tropical nights since 1979.
September: Design changes in website account overview
The new website account page shows a better overview of available services and simplifies the management of meteoblue subscriptions like point+ or Ad-free. This page is only accessible to users with an account on our website.
October: MetExpo Paris
After two years of working at home, we had the chance again to present our team and products at the Meteorological Technology World Expo in Paris, France, on 11-13th October 2022.
The Meteorological Technology World Expo 2022 is the largest and longest-running global exhibition of meteorological products and services and took place in Paris, France, from 11th to 13th October 2022, after a 2-year pause imposed by COVID-19 restrictions.
November: Improved 14-Day forecast and MSM5 model for East-Asia
This month brought an update of the 14 days weather forecast with a new design and much faster loading speed. For those who want to print the meteogram, the "Download" button produces a nice png image which can be saved on your device.
Furthermore, the East-Asia forecast was enhanced by adding the MSM5 model from Japan Meteorological Agency to our weather forecast offer. The MSM5 model covers mainly Japan with a resolution of 5km, as well as the surrounding areas of the Korea peninsula and parts of Eastern China. It is already integrated into our top accuracy mLM forecast for these areas. You can check out the model in our MultiModel and, of course, the enhanced forecast for these areas on our website.
December: Ski weather
We have been working on our new ski resort weather to prepare for the starting skiing season in the Northern hemisphere. The ski resort information has been added to our start page, where you can immediately see if there is a ski resort in the nearby surrounding of the selected location. If so, an additional box appears summarising the most relevant ski information. By clicking on this box to find detailed information on all slopes and infrastructure in the ski resort, up-to-date information on open ski runs and lifts, as well as snow conditions. On our new page, you can also find all relevant contact information and website links to each ski resort.
We look forward to continuing our work on innovations and website features next year.
We wish you all a merry and peaceful Christmas with your loved ones and an excellent start to the new year 2023.
