Extreme Weather Congress in Hamburg

During the annual Extreme Weather Congress in Hamburg (27th to 29th of September), extreme weather and climate change developments have been discussed.

This year, the 13th Extreme Weather Congress took place. This congress was initiated and moderated by Frank Böttcher, chairman of the German Meteorological Society and expert in extreme weather, climate and more. During the congress, scientists, politicians, companies and media representatives met in the International Maritime Museum in Hamburg to discuss and debate the topic of extreme weather and climate change, presenting the latest research and scientific insights. A 3-day program provided insight into meteorological topics such as heat, forest fire risk, heavy rain, thunderstorm and hail forecast, and broader impetus on risk and climate management, impacts on business, climate journalism and communication and education. The wide-ranging diversity of the program offered a platform for exchange, not only for experts but also for interested and newcomers.

We are proud to have contributed a presentation on "Physical Climate Risk Assessments - EU Taxonomy Reporting in Standard Format" held by Karl Gutbrod as part of the Business and Energy Forum theme block. In his presentation, he emphasized the urgent need for companies to integrate climate risk assessments into their operations, which are essential for climate change adaptations and climate-change-related risk reduction. Furthermore, the growing need for skilled professionals who can effectively interpret and communicate this important data, especially in the context of the new EU regulations, was highlighted.

In addition, we were available throughout the congress to answer questions from anyone who wanted to learn even more about meteoblue and our climate services, had fruitful exchanges and learned a lot. The Extreme Weather Congress is an important medium for networking and information dissemination in Germany, also available live online - and thus outside the congress - for those interested. The presentations and discussions on various topics can still be viewed online.

Many thanks to the organizers of the events and all contributors for this important and interesting insight, and especially for working together on such important topics.
