A flood alert has been issued. Groundwater is high, within 80cm of the surface at the East Dean borehole, but slowly falling a few centimetres each day. Minor groundwater flood impacts are expected to continue, affecting the ability of the sewage network to operate in East Dean, Charlton, Singleton and West Dean. Water will affect some basements, and will be underneath ground floors. Isolated showers are possible Saturday and Sunday. A band of rain might move over Sussex from the channel Monday morning (06/05/2024), which could cause water to temporarily flow on roads. There remains uncertainty in the weather forecast and exactly how much rain might occur, but groundwater is unlikely to rise. From Tuesday (07/05/2024) high pressure should mean very little rain. Groundwater should continue to slowly fall but minor flood impacts affecting the sewage network could continue through to mid May. If you have pumps to help reduce groundwater levels in your property, ensure they are operational. We continue to monitor the levels and forecast. We will update this message by 18:00 on 07/05/2024.

A flood alert has been issued. The Aldingbourne Rife is very slowly falling, following Thursday's rain. Minor flood impacts will continue to affect fields near Shripney Lane and the A259, parts of the Tesco car park on Shripney Road and land around caravans at Riverside Caravan Centre. The Barnham Rife has now returned nearer to normal. Currently, only isolated showers are expected on Sunday (05/05/2024). The Aldingbourne Rife should continue to very slowly fall. From 06:00 on Monday (06/05/2024), an area of more persistent rain could affect Sussex, with intense showers possible throughout the day, which could again cause river levels to rise a small amount in Bersted and Barnham, with minor flood impacts possible. Tuesday and Wednesday should remain dry but minor flood impacts could remain until Friday (10/05/2024). Flood protection products are recommended to be kept installed in Barnham, as a precaution, if you have them. Our pumps at Felpham are running to reduce flood risk. We will update this message by 11:00 on 06/05/2024.
