The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has issued an Air Quality Advisory for PM2.5 which will remain in effect until midnight tonight. This advisory affects people living in the following counties: Adams, Buffalo, Chippewa, Clark, Columbia, Crawford, Dane, Dunn, Eau Claire, Grant, Green Lake, Iowa, Jackson, Juneau, La Crosse, Langlade, Lincoln, Marathon, Marquette, Menominee, Monroe, Outagamie, Pepin, Pierce, Portage, Richland, Saint Croix, Sauk, Shawano, Taylor, Trempealeau, Vernon, Waupaca, Waushara, Winnebago, Wood.
Due to Canadian wildfire smoke, the air quality index is expected to reach the UNHEALTHY FOR SENSITIVE GROUPS level. People with heart or lung disease, older adults, and children should reduce prolonged or heavy exertion.

This band of smoke will slowly drift to the south throughout the day and air quality will begin improving from north to south within the alert area. Air quality should improve across the Twin Cities metro during the afternoon and the rest of southern Minnesota can expect improving air quality by the end of the day.

Sensitive groups, such as people with lung disease (including asthma), heart disease, and children and older adults, should avoid prolonged or heavy exertion. The general public should limit prolonged or heavy exertion. Reduce or eliminate activities that contribute to air pollution, such as outdoor burning, and use of residential wood burning devices. Reduce vehicle trips and vehicle idling as much as possible. Keep windows closed overnight to prevent smoke from getting indoors.
Smoke has cleared the Twin Cities metro and air quality has improved below alert levels.
