The National Weather Service in Charleston has issued a

  • Flash Flood Warning for, Northeastern Boone County in central West Virginia, Central Kanawha County in central West Virginia, Eastern Lincoln County in central West Virginia,

  • Until 1145 AM EDT.

  • At 839 AM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 0.8 and 1.2 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts up to 0.5 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.

HAZARD,Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

IMPACT,Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

  • Some locations that will experience flash flooding include, Charleston, Nitro, Jefferson, South Charleston, St. Albans, Dunbar, Chesapeake, Marmet, Belle, Cedar Grove, East Bank, Glasgow, Pratt, Coal Fork, Institute, Cross Lanes, Alum Creek, Tornado, Handley and Ashford.

This includes the following highways, Interstate 77 in West Virginia between mile markers 96 and 105. Route 119 between mile markers 68 and 80. Interstate 64 in West Virginia between mile markers 46 and 57. West Virginia Turnpike between mile markers 77 and 95. Interstate 79 between mile markers 1 and 2.
