A flood alert has been issued. River levels have peaked but will remain high on the upper river Ouse on Friday 24/05/24. Areas most affected include riverside footpaths and low-lying land in York and to the south as far as Naburn Lock, including Kings Staith, Queens Staith, and South Esplanade. Avoid using low-lying footpaths near local watercourses and do not walk or drive through floodwater. We will continue to monitor river levels. This message will be updated by 10.00pm on Friday 24/05/2024, or as the situation changes.

- Avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water - 30 cm of fast-flowing water can move a car and 6 inches can knock an adult off their feet.
