ADDITIONAL DETAILS: The first of two significant winter storms will move over the region beginning early Sunday morning. Precipitation is expected to start as snow for most locations, with up to 2 inches of snow possible. The snow is then expected to mix with then change to freezing rain by early Sunday afternoon with up to two tenths of an inch of ice possible, especially from Sleetmute to Crooked Creek and across the Kuskokwim Delta coast. Precipitation is expected to taper off Monday morning from Bethel east. A light wintry mix may continue along the Kuskokwim Delta coast Monday morning into Monday afternoon.
After a break in the precipitation, a second storm system is then expected to move over the region Monday evening through Wednesday. This second storm system has the potential to produce a significant amount of freezing rain, up to half an inch, especially across the Kuskokwim Delta.
