ACCUMULATING SNOW AND VERY GUSTY WINDS EXPECTED THROUGH EARLY WEDNESDAY MORNING
- A strong clipper system is bringing a variety of winter impacts to much of Minnesota and Wisconsin through early Wednesday morning. Heavy snowfall with rates exceeding 1 inch per hour will be possible in portions of western Wisconsin into the early morning hours. Total snowfall amounts near and north of Interstate 94 will range 5-8 inches.
Snowfall amounts taper off along and south of Interstate 94, where 3 to 5 inches of snow is expected along with wind gusts of 35 to 40 MPH. Some patchy freezing drizzle is possible at times over central-southern Minnesota, but little to no ice accumulation is expected.
Finally, across southwestern and southern Minnesota, a wintry mix may produce around an inch of snow, but very gusty winds approaching 55 MPH at times overnight could lead to ground blizzard conditions.
A break in the precipitation will occur late this evening followed by another round of light snow during the early morning hours, with little additional accumulation. Winds will diminish through the day Wednesday.
